Capitol Cafeteria to Reopen Monday
Two weeks after being shut down for unsanitary conditions, the Capitol cafeteria will reopen Monday morning.
Sunday, staff members began prepping food to get ready for the re-opening. They know cafeteria visitors will be looking closely at every detail. Bruce Walton, Vice President of Aramark, says, "We're going to have to win our guests back, we're going to have to prove them what we've done."
The cafeteria was shut down when an inspection turned up numerous violations including a rodent infestation and a faulty dishwasher with water not hot enough to sanitize dishes. Aramark, the company thats runs the cafeteria says it's taken new measures to increase sanitation methods, hired a new pest control company, and made leadership changes to ensure this doesn't happen again.
The cafeteria should have been inspected every year, but the state auditor revealed the last inspection was in 2005. Department of Agriculture spokesperson, Justin Fleming, says there was controversy over jurisdiction, "I'm happy to report, the Department has reached an agreement with Harrisburg to license and inspect eateries in the capitol complex so we're hoping to avoid that situation again."
