Food Left On Stove Source Of 3-Alarm Fire

Kansas City fire investigators said Wednesday afternoon that $250,000 in damage was caused by food left atop a stove at the San Francisco Towers in the Crown Center area. The first firefighters at the scene smelled smoke in the lobby. KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported that fire crews broke some windows in the building to help clear the smoke. Within 20 minutes of the first call, the fire was reported to be under control. The fire was reported at 12:09 p. m. Wednesday in an apartment on the 18th floor. Investigators said the building suffered $200,000 in damage while residents saw $50,000 in damage to their belongings. Within 10 minutes, they discovered the fire and elevated the call.
