La Mesa approves composting program
By a 4-0 vote Tuesday night, the City Council approved a residential backyard composting program that will provide subsidies for residents to buy discount compost bins. The program will be based on a system in which residents can request a discount coupon from the city that can be used to buy a bin at a reduced cost. "Gauging from other cities that go through a lot of these bins, I'm guessing we'll start off with a trickle, but the way it is set up, the city will not be stuck with inventory," Munzenmaier said. The city of La Mesa, which is closing in on starting a community garden at Helix High School, continues to show its green side. Dixieline ProBuild on Center Drive has agreed to partner with the city on the sale of the bins.Confessions of a Composter: Learn to Compost Like a Master
