Drip pool birdbaths good all year round
Birds need water in the winter, and you can attract many different kinds of birds with pools and birdbaths. A great birdbath isn't just anything with water in it. Most birds cannot swim, of course, and they are afraid of water that is more than an inch

Rural Departments Save Home in Hawthorne Fire
Luckily parkland's fire hall has about 50000 gallons of water, they got a big tank there. So we went down there and we filled up and put the birdbath down,” Chief Brian Laverdiere with the Town of Superior Fire Department said.

Jerry Ludwig: If exterior GFCI 'trips,' it's working
Dear Jerry: Two years ago I installed a 20-amp circuit line to my birdbath to provide power for a fountain in the summer and a heater in the winter. I installed an outlet box with a GFI outlet on the side of the house and then ran a line to an

WILD ABOUT BIRDS: Winter or summer - birds still need to bathe
WILD ABOUT BIRDS: Winter or summer - birds still need to bathe Clean feathers help birds stay warm, and a bird bath with open water is often the only way for some birds to drink and stay clean when it's cold. Birds fluff up their feathers during the winter causing air pockets between the feathers and their skin.

Winter bird-watching holds surprises
Q Something keeps chewing through the cord for my birdbath heater. What animal is doing this? A The miscreant nibbling on the electrical cord is either a squirrel or a rabbit. I had the same problem with my birdbath heater until someone suggested

Bird Notes | Winter does a number on birds
Bird Notes | Winter does a number on birds There are small relatively inexpensive birdbath heaters commercially available to keep water available to the birds at all times. These devices are thermostat controlled so they only operate to keep the water from freezing, and are much easier to

Gary Bogue: Birdbaths: It's nice to have them in our yards

I also broke the thick ice on our birdbath and added warm water to the cold water. These cold winter mornings, I go out early to feed the birds in the front yard (we have many feeders on the side yard as well as suet available, which so many enjoy). We need rain badly and perhaps there isn't drinking water available for them in many places. This morning (Monday) it was different in that not only did our usual birds come, but flocks of robins and cedar waxwings also came to drink. They seem to remember that they can find water here. We also watch for the hawks, who are in the area. What a delight to watch the activity. The doves are a bit careless and sit on the ground to sun themselves and are easy prey.

Garden Song® 4103-4 Terra Cotta Lily Pad Hanging Birdbath | Sale ...

Cleaning the bird bath is easy due to the high gloss interior – the birds do leave droppings in the bath and sediment can collect even in one day. The hanging wire chain is very easy to remove – its just 3 hooks in 3 holes around the rim of the bath. (and the hooks and chains to hang it) For what this likely costs to make the $23 is questionable, let alone the supposed full price of almost $70. This is a very attractive bird bath. I refresh the water almost every day after I have rinsed it out – it’s a breeze to clean with the glazed finish. The blue high gloss painted interior has a cute frog ornament and a raised textured base. The birds like to drink and splash around in them and the terracota exterior fits well in the yard. I have 2 – one is hanging from a tree branch and the other is sitting atop a pedestal....
